Styled wedding editorial today with an incredible group of vendors and two lovely models. 🦋

The request for the look was pinky cheeks and lips, glow, and light, fluttery lashes. I also went for a soft blonde brow, whereas I normally lean towards a soft brown with blondes (my preference). I’m liking the result. Lastly I added a soft smokey brown liner to bring out the green in Meghan’s eyes and to complement the dusty blue dress.

The brief was soft, neutral makeup, no coloured blush, nude lips, coverage for the skin while managing shine and trying to avoid “too much”. I went for a “soft FOCUS glam” application. We kept the lashes natural to test out, but may go for a natural corner or cat eye strip lash for a winged effect on the wedding day.

On set today with the lovely Tatiana (+ 📸 Izabela Rachwal) for some fashion work.

I’m passionate about bridal, but fashion allows me to be creative in different ways. While these looks are not overtly different than your typical no makeup-makeup or smokey liner looks, the techniques I used were different than my usual process. For the skin I layered on a heavy cream and applied a whole layer of bronze glow. For the liner I used two kohl pencils and smudged them out - no shadows. Because of the environment and timeline there was no need to prep or set for longevity like I would’ve for a wedding or event. This allowed me to experiment with different products to achieve the finish and results that I was looking for.

I was channeling @nikki_makeup for the smokey liner look. I’ve seen her time and time again use pencils to create beautiful eye looks and I feel late to the game because wow, no fallout (obviously) or needing to blend multiple colours to achieve this effect. This is something I’ll consider bringing into my bridal makeup with the right pencils.

Stepped out of my comfort zone with this look. I’m feeling inspired and motivated this year to learn about application techniques that are new or challenging for me. This year also feels like the return of makeup. What I mean is, I feel we’re getting more comfortable wearing more and seeing more after a couple of years of Clean Girl and natural looks. Don’t worry though, I still love doing those looks too!

It was a busy and challenging year for me, but so rewarding in makeup. This year had me welcoming in my son and juggling weddings and family life - a balance I couldn’t have done without your patience and understanding. Special thank you to @glam.byjules for assisting me on nearly all my weddings so that I could adjust to life as a mom of two littles and still do what I love - playing with makeup and making women feel confident and beautiful.

This year I’ve had a strong desire to elevate my artistry and offerings. In the new year and going forward I want to keep challenging myself with my artistry, keep learning (through studying and others), and implement new and improved client experiences.

POV: setting up for a makeup application.

A while back I posted about getting a new case for my kit and dumping my old Blanche MacDonald train case. I’ve been so happy with the upgrade of a soft case and how much I’ve been able to store and keep organized. It’s been a game changer in terms of presentation, helping me keep clean and tidy, and making me more efficient. I have a few more tweaks left to add and those will come with time. Originally I swapped out to make things lighter after pulling my neck carry my old one, but I’m pretty sure this kit weighs the same, if not more now 😅 At least I’ve incorporated a wagon and found an awesome zip tote to make carrying easier.

Now I’d love to find a small (yet powerful) beauty light. I recently bought this one last year after my old one of many years broke and was being held together with an elastic band 🫣 but I’m tired of how big of a footprint it is and bulky to carry.

MUAs - I would love to hear what you use for lighting and why/why not you’d recommend it.

✨ Bridal trial for LAUREN ✨

We looked at two different eye shadow styles during the consult and tried something in the middle. I love how she wore her hair back and her bridal earrings to get a sense for the wedding day.

After reviewing we’ve decided on the wedding day we’re going to go lighter, as she’s after a more chic and clean aesthetic. She was getting some photos taken today and was planning on wearing black, so darker was ok. This is what I like about bridal trials. Not only do we get to know one another, but we can try out a look and make adjustments (if required) without feeling pressured as we may on the day of (when there wasn’t a trial). There’s time to experiment and change your mind.
